Diaper Change Excitement Adventures

The Roll Over Adventure Part 2

William can now roll over both ways!!!!! He has learned to roll from his back to his tummy. It seems he can only roll over when he's pissed off but I'm just happy he can do it. Sorry I don't have a video of that yet, he's only done it twice and I haven't been able to get it on video yet. I will post a video as soon as I can catch him on camera.

The Not Sleeping Adventure

The last few days have been exhausting. I'm not busy, in fact I'm really behind on my household chores but William has been doing this thing where he will wake up somewhere between the hours of 6am and 7am for a feeding, wake up again somewhere between 9am and noon, depending on how much he ate and how dirty his diaper is, and then he will sleep till about 4pm and then he's awake until mommy goes to bed sometime after midnight (David works till 11pm so that's when he and I have our evenings).
To make it worse he fights sleep. While hanging out with my mom today it took everything I got to get William to take a friggin' nap. He napped for an hour in my arms and as soon as I put my baby down he woke up. Of course.
In the end I had to drive around for 2 hours to get him to fall asleep and stay asleep. As soon as we got to the TeleTech parking lot to pick his daddy up from work, he woke up again. So its one of those phases... I blame my mom. She said that I was the same way; she also gave me the "I hope you have a child just like you someday" curse. Thank you Mom, love you too! Hahaha!

The Roll Over Adventure Part 1

William can roll over from his tummy to his back!!
This video was taken today; he will be 11 weeks on Tuesday. My baby boy is getting so big and strong!

Summer Adventures

This summer the family and I have been keeping pretty busy. David has been working mostly but William and I have been getting out there. For Father's Day we walked around the Trail of the Cedars in Glacier National Park, which is always a beautiful walk and pretty easy. Had it not been raining we would've been able to put William in the stroller since it's a boardwalk trail. We went hiking a week later with some long time friends of mine. Once again we found ourselves in Glacier Park only this time we hiked the Avalanche Lake Trail (and just for the hell of it since the Cedar Trail and the Avalanche Trail start at the same place we walked through the cedar trees again). The Avalanche Lake Trail took us through Avalanche Creek gorge to the always beautiful Avalanche Lake. It was a tough trail though. I've hiked it a couple times in the past but due to all the snow this last winter there was a detour since part of the original trail had been... drowned. And unlike most of the tourists that visit this beautiful park that I feel fortunate to live near, I hike to the end of the lake, where the trail officially ends. We had to make our own detour there since there was a new river that would have been very hard to cross without getting soaked (which our feet were all ready wet by this point since we kept hitting very wet and very muddy spots in the trail) and was too dangerous with a baby but we found a way to get across.
We have also taken William on his very first camping trip, with the same friends we went with on our Avalanche Lake hike. Staying pretty local, we went up to the National Forest land by Tally Lake. Best part were no fees and no check in/check out times since it wasn't a maintained campground, just a cute little spot to camp. There were bears in the area but they never came around and bothered us any. Which we were prepared if they did. Each couple took their dog; we had our lovable and part pit bull, Emmet, and they had Griz. As soon as it got dark, Emmet wanted in the tent... pansy ass dog.
A few weeks later, William and I went down to Wallowa, Oregon with my mom and little sister, Brenna. My dad drove us down there. When traveling with a baby, there is a lot you have to take with you, especially the first time since you don't really know what they will need or use. I learned that I don't need to bring the playpen, so that will be a space saver for next time. While we were down there, we took a trip over to Milton-Freewater to see our family friends, the Harvey's. Milton-Freewater is where I spent most of my childhood, I hadn't been back since New Year's 2002/03. We visited Wallowa Lake and I put William's toes in the water (and I should note that my younger sister swam for the very first time). And I saw my good friend (and ex-boyfriend) Derek who is one of the Harvey's.
We've only been back from Oregon for a week, and oh Lord, has it been a long week and busy. William had his first non-family member babysitter Friday night since I was hosting a bachelorette party for my friend Cassie. And today we went to a wedding. Next time I have an infant and have to go to wedding (especially if  I'm in said wedding) I am not bringing the infant! It was a very hot day but beautiful.
William is now 10lbs 9oz and 23 3/4 inches long. He like's to be held in a sitting up position and he can smile. I think he is getting pretty chunky but the doctor says his growth has dropped and that he's only in the 9th percentile so we have to go back in for a weight check next month. I think he's just fine, I still breastfeed my baby. It's not common to breastfeed in the United States anymore, most people automatically assume you formula feed, which would be why my son isn't as heavy as other babies his age. He spits up a lot so we are watching for signs of re-flux to see if the doctor will have to prescribe medication for that. William has strong legs (that is doctor confirmed).
David and I are getting ready to celebrate our first wedding anniversary on the 7th of August. We will have been together for 3 years on the 27 of next month. The last few months have been pretty hard on our relationship. But we always come out on top cause we work through it together.
First trip to GNP.

The Great Great Grandma Adventure

This last weekend my great grandmother came up from Pendleton, Oregon. She's 85 years old and every year I see her, I'm just thankful I got another year in. So we got together for lunch and she got to hold her great great grandson for the first time. It was such a special  day. My great Aunt Mary also came and she got to hold William too. I hadn't seen her since I was still living in Oregon which was almost 10 years ago. We also finally got a family picture taken where all three of us were together.

The Adventure of William's First Smile

June 4th, one day before my baby turns 4 weeks old. William had just woken up from his nap. He was still in  his carrier since he had fallen asleep in the car. All I did was say hello and he made the big wide happy baby grin. I could tell by the way it lit up his whole face that it wasn't just another gas grin. This was a genuine smile. It's heart melting. Lock up your daughters cause there's a cutie pie on the loose!

The Adventure of I Should Be Sleeping Since My Newborn Son Is

After less than 5 hours of sleep since a certain little baby didn't seem to want to sleep last night, we started our morning off not so great. I heard my husband's alarm go off. 8am means its time to wake up, not fall back to sleep. And that's exactly what David did. Normally I stay awake cause I get paranoid about everything, including my husband making it to work on time but today I also fell asleep again after his alarm went off.
Now my husband also has an alarm signaling its 5 minutes to 9am since he can easily walk to work and he has to leave by 9 to make it there on time. That alarm went off and it was a rush. This meant I had to get William ready to go too and I had no time to breastfeed him before leaving. David made a bottle, I changed William's dirty diaper, packed the diaper bag and we were out. Good thing William falls asleep when the car is moving cause he didn't get to eat very much when we had to get in the car. Once again, thank God for caffeine.
Once home, I finished feeding my little bundle of joy his factory made crap (I really don't like feeding him formula) and he fell asleep for a few minutes but as soon as I put him down he was not happy. I eventually had to feed him again, this time with a boob instead of a bottle, to get him to settle down. He's been asleep for the last 2 hours (hallelujah) which means I should be too, but I think I will wait till after lunch time or when he wakes up again. Falling asleep now means I have to move him since I'm half laying half sitting since I was feeding him. He's comfortably asleep on my chest currently (he really likes to sleep there).
On another note: while I was breastfeeding William this morning, I realized I put his pants on backwards. Oops.

The Adventure of Our First Can't Get The Baby To Sleep Night

It wasn't until after 3am when David and I finally got our two week old son to fall asleep... and stay there. I don't breastfeed my son at night; I get too frustrated to try to work with him cause we both get impatient at night. Plus my husband can help by warming up either stored breast milk or a bottle of formula, whichever we have on hand. He polished off the milk I had pumped for him and since I was still awake I tried to give him the boob cause he was acting like he was still hungry. Well, he didn't want the boob either. David tried walking around holding him and when baby William finally drifted off he was passed to me where he woke up. We did this a couple of times with no luck. Then we had a glimmer of hope. He was asleep in David's arms so he laid him down in the bassinet. We held our breath as he started to stir but he quieted down. David crawled into bed, exhausted and dreading having to wake up at 8am for work. He snuggle up next to me and a few moments later we were holding our breath again as William stirred in his sleep again.
"Oh, God dammit," David said as he through back the covers when our son started crying. David was getting frustrated as was I. This time I had David make me a bottle of formula; it worked. Rather than risking waking our infant I had to sleep holding him, something I'm used to since I've done it since day one. Thank God for caffeine.

The Adventure of Stretch Marks

It was bound to happen. I'm tall and thin; there was no way I could come out of a pregnancy without stretch marks. As my tummy grew, though, I could not find any. When William was born I still could not see any stretch marks. Mostly relieved, I was still slightly disappointed that I didn't earn my "warriors wound," my "badge of honor." I all ready have stretch marks on my ass from high school (I was blessed with a booty) from that growing but where was my "mommy mark?" For the last 2 weeks though I did notice a couple red squiggles on my thighs, practically invisible due to my tanned skin but I thought I had just pinched my leg during labor or something. Tonight I realized that they weren't marks from me grabbing my legs or something during labor, those squiggles are stretch marks! Well now we know where all that pregnancy weight gain went.

The Adventure of Knowing Me

Other people might not find my life exciting or fantastic but I think I'm living the dream (aside from being flat broke in a teeny tiny house that I'm renting). I'm 21 years old and I think I'm pretty damn lucky for everything I have. I have a wonderful husband, David, that I've had the privilege of knowing since high school. We've been a couple since August 2009 and our first wedding Anniversary will be on August 7 of this year. I have a beautiful baby boy, William, who will be 3 weeks old on Tuesday. I have a dog that is a year old. He's a mix of Staffordshire Terrier, Shar Pei and Pit Bull and he thinks he's the size of a Shih Tzu. I call him my Hell Hound since he gets overly excited when people come over. His name is Emmet (yes I realize he's named after a Twilight vampire, yes it was kind of on purpose, no its not because I used to be obsessed with the books). I have a cat thats 3 years old and she's all black. Her name is Pumpkin but she only responds to Kitty. I am currently a stay at home mom, or a homemaker if you prefer that term. That does not mean I do the whole 50's house wife thing... in fact more often then not, even before I was pregnant, my house is a mess. Even though I'm completely broke and can't do a whole lot in the money department, I really have everything I've ever wanted. So enjoy my blog cause it's really going to be a whole lot of "adventures" and probably some ranting. And if you do take the time to read it, thank you!
