This summer the family and I have been keeping pretty busy. David has been working mostly but William and I have been getting out there. For Father's Day we walked around the Trail of the Cedars in Glacier National Park, which is always a beautiful walk and pretty easy. Had it not been raining we would've been able to put William in the stroller since it's a boardwalk trail. We went hiking a week later with some long time friends of mine. Once again we found ourselves in Glacier Park only this time we hiked the Avalanche Lake Trail (and just for the hell of it since the Cedar Trail and the Avalanche Trail start at the same place we walked through the cedar trees again). The Avalanche Lake Trail took us through Avalanche Creek gorge to the always beautiful Avalanche Lake. It was a tough trail though. I've hiked it a couple times in the past but due to all the snow this last winter there was a detour since part of the original trail had been... drowned. And unlike most of the tourists that visit this beautiful park that I feel fortunate to live near, I hike to the end of the lake, where the trail officially ends. We had to make our own detour there since there was a new river that would have been very hard to cross without getting soaked (which our feet were all ready wet by this point since we kept hitting very wet and very muddy spots in the trail) and was too dangerous with a baby but we found a way to get across.
We have also taken William on his very first camping trip, with the same friends we went with on our Avalanche Lake hike. Staying pretty local, we went up to the National Forest land by Tally Lake. Best part were no fees and no check in/check out times since it wasn't a maintained campground, just a cute little spot to camp. There were bears in the area but they never came around and bothered us any. Which we were prepared if they did. Each couple took their dog; we had our lovable and part pit bull, Emmet, and they had Griz. As soon as it got dark, Emmet wanted in the tent... pansy ass dog.
A few weeks later, William and I went down to Wallowa, Oregon with my mom and little sister, Brenna. My dad drove us down there. When traveling with a baby, there is a lot you have to take with you, especially the first time since you don't really know what they will need or use. I learned that I don't need to bring the playpen, so that will be a space saver for next time. While we were down there, we took a trip over to Milton-Freewater to see our family friends, the Harvey's. Milton-Freewater is where I spent most of my childhood, I hadn't been back since New Year's 2002/03. We visited Wallowa Lake and I put William's toes in the water (and I should note that my younger sister swam for the very first time). And I saw my good friend (and ex-boyfriend) Derek who is one of the Harvey's.
We've only been back from Oregon for a week, and oh Lord, has it been a long week and busy. William had his first non-family member babysitter Friday night since I was hosting a bachelorette party for my friend Cassie. And today we went to a wedding. Next time I have an infant and have to go to wedding (especially if I'm in said wedding) I am not bringing the infant! It was a very hot day but beautiful.
William is now 10lbs 9oz and 23 3/4 inches long. He like's to be held in a sitting up position and he can smile. I think he is getting pretty chunky but the doctor says his growth has dropped and that he's only in the 9th percentile so we have to go back in for a weight check next month. I think he's just fine, I still breastfeed my baby. It's not common to breastfeed in the United States anymore, most people automatically assume you formula feed, which would be why my son isn't as heavy as other babies his age. He spits up a lot so we are watching for signs of re-flux to see if the doctor will have to prescribe medication for that. William has strong legs (that is doctor confirmed).
David and I are getting ready to celebrate our first wedding anniversary on the 7th of August. We will have been together for 3 years on the 27 of next month. The last few months have been pretty hard on our relationship. But we always come out on top cause we work through it together.
