The Adventure of Our First Can't Get The Baby To Sleep Night

It wasn't until after 3am when David and I finally got our two week old son to fall asleep... and stay there. I don't breastfeed my son at night; I get too frustrated to try to work with him cause we both get impatient at night. Plus my husband can help by warming up either stored breast milk or a bottle of formula, whichever we have on hand. He polished off the milk I had pumped for him and since I was still awake I tried to give him the boob cause he was acting like he was still hungry. Well, he didn't want the boob either. David tried walking around holding him and when baby William finally drifted off he was passed to me where he woke up. We did this a couple of times with no luck. Then we had a glimmer of hope. He was asleep in David's arms so he laid him down in the bassinet. We held our breath as he started to stir but he quieted down. David crawled into bed, exhausted and dreading having to wake up at 8am for work. He snuggle up next to me and a few moments later we were holding our breath again as William stirred in his sleep again.
"Oh, God dammit," David said as he through back the covers when our son started crying. David was getting frustrated as was I. This time I had David make me a bottle of formula; it worked. Rather than risking waking our infant I had to sleep holding him, something I'm used to since I've done it since day one. Thank God for caffeine.
